Job Opening: Waldorf-Inspired Kindergarten Teacher
Sunrise School of Ormond Beach is seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated Kindergarten Teacher to join our Waldorf-inspired outdoor school. This is a unique opportunity for a teacher who loves nature, values holistic education, and is excited to guide young children in a creative, nurturing environment.
What We’re Looking For:
We recognize that there are many, many people who are qualified to teach Kindergarten — but a Waldorf Kindergarten teacher holds a very different and special role. Because early childhood in Waldorf education is a non-academic, play-based journey, we are seeking someone who not only has teaching experience but who also brings deep reverence for the emotional and inner life of the young child.
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves young children, who understands the importance of meeting them where they are developmentally, and who engages in their own inner work (self development) — cultivating patience, presence, and mindfulness — in order to hold space for young children to fully experience and process their feelings. This position calls for a personal commitment to growth, self-awareness, and the ability to nurture a warm, secure, and loving environment in which each child feels truly seen and supported.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of an education degree or equivalent (state certification not required).
- Classroom experience is essential, with a strong preference for highly experienced educators.
- Exposure to Waldorf education is required. This could include Waldorf homeschool experience, work in Waldorf schools or programs, or completion of Waldorf Early Childhood or Lifeways training. Priority will be given to candidates with a Waldorf certificate.
- A love for the outdoors—someone who enjoys camping, hiking, cooking outside, and is comfortable in all weather conditions (rain, mud, etc.).
- Strong singing voice, capable of using song as a healing and nourishing tool in the classroom.
- Able to project vocally when storytelling or leading circle time, with an anchoring yet gentle and nurturing presence.
- Ability to set and maintain firm yet loving boundaries with young children.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of delegating responsibilities to an assistant teacher who will support the lead teacher in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and tell one story per week to the children.
- Prepare daily snacks and tea for the children.
- Lead daily circle time.
- Communicate with kindergarten parents via a weekly email newsletter.
- Attend and actively participate in our monthly seasonal festivals (paid hours).
- Collaborate with school leadership and communicate needs to ensure a successful experience in the classroom.
Position Details:
- Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Compensation: Starting pay for a lead teacher is $25 per hour, with potential for increases as you grow with us.
- Ongoing professional development and training in Waldorf education provided.
We are seeking someone who is passionate about changing the mainstream narrative around education, immersing children in nature, and fostering their overall health and well-being. If you
are a dedicated educator with a love for outdoor, nature-based learning and a belief in the Waldorf philosophy, we would love to hear from you!
